What Is Tsirkus Fotografika?

Tsirkus evolved organically as a result of founder RA Friedman’s love of the figure, image making, and vintage photographic technology. It started with a few shoots, first for free and then to raise money for P.A.W.S. and the concept grew from there. In crafting Tsirkus, Friedman decided to create a framework that would allow him to concentrate on what he believed was most important - creating engaging work with new and interesting artistic collaborators. At the same time he aimed to leave behind the traditional artist/gallery paradigm that he saw as working against him and many other artists. By partnering with other non-profit and artistic ventures while also being driven by the creative skills and energy of many, Tsirkus continues to bring a new and lively creative space to communities. The project itself has emerged as an ongoing and ever-expanding conceptual piece wherein the photographic images bear witness to its ability to spur lively artistic improvisation and imbue those it touches with a new and wider perspective.
